Vicki Hirst

Qualifications and experience in the areas of leadership, management, human resource management, organisation  change and development, and social services provide the context for my professional supervision work. I have a particular interest in Professional Supervision and along with being a seasoned Professional Supervisor have been a lecturer, trainer, publisher and conference presenter in this field. The latest developments and trends in employment relations, managing performance, career development, preventing and managing burnout and promoting holistic wellbeing are all areas incorporated into my practice. 

Born and raised in Levin, New Zealand I moved to Auckland as a 17 year old and generally lived and worked from there - apart from stints overseas and Palmerston North. I am married to Graeme and have two daughters Katie and Ruby. We now have a home  on the water in the fabulous Whangarei Heads where we enjoy time with whanau and friends, walking, fishing, kayaking, gardening and reading. 

Relevant Roles:

• ANZASW elected Board member in 2019.
• Chairperson, Social Workers Registration Board Complaints and Disciplinary Tribunal for 6 years until 2015, a Tribunal member from 2005.
• Lecturer, (Part time) University of Auckland - formerly Auckland College of Education. Developed and taught the papers “Coaching, Appraisal and Staff Development”, “Managing and Developing Performance” and “Frontline Management in the Social Services” for the Advanced Diploma in Social Work Supervision and “Management in Social Services” for the Bachelor of Social Work. Other lecturing areas included: Professional Supervision - including Interprofessional Supervision, Career Development, Private Practice, Organisational Change and Development and Time Management, 5 years until 2007.
• Co-convener Supervision Conference ‘Same Threads, Many Patterns’ in 2010.
• Organising Committee Member for Supervision Conferences “Weaving Together the Strands of Supervision” in 2004 and “From Rhetoric to Reality” in 2000.
• Convener and Co-ordinator, Supervisors Interest Group, ANZASW, 7 years until 2009.

• Masters of Commerce, First Class Honours, Management and Employment Relations, University of Auckland, 2002.
• Bachelor of Arts, (Majors in Psychology and Education), University of Auckland, 1982.
• Graduate Diploma in Social Services Supervision, With Distinction, Massey University, 2007.
• Diploma of Business, (Personnel Management and Employee Relations), University of Auckland, 1994.
• Diploma of Applied Social Studies, Certificate of Qualification in Social Work, Auckland College of Education, 1986.
